“Much like its precious metal namesake, Golden Week is the most precious time in my annual calendar, and I protect it as such.” – Richard Edge
Tis the season to be jolly. But what good would it be if we just spoke about the same festivities that is probably all over your feed. Instead, I’m going to advise you to convert some of the joy into the mindset you need this Golden Week.
Why?
→ 2025 is 31 days away
→ You’re reading this newsletter for a reason
→ What Career Coach would I be if I didn’t share my best kept secret?!
Let this edition of our newsletter serve as a gentle reminder that the whole world does NOT celebrate Christmas. Though much of the non-Western world serves platitudes to predominantly Western celebrations, most non-Christian countries won’t be taking a break or closing over the festive season.
You’ve no doubt seen this picture before:
Yes. That’s me, Richard Edge, last year in Qatar.
Not only was I in Qatar to celebrate the incredible launch of Emerald Resilience - founded by my great friend Sheena - at the Raffles Hotel, it also served as an inspirational reminder.
Some of you may know that Careerships was born in Doha, Qatar 2020.
The birth of your own company is super important. It reminds me:
→ Why I started
→ Shows the progression made over the years
→ Acts as a further source of inspiration
Since that trip during Golden Week, Careerships has helped more clients around the world, completed the first international talk, launched the rebrand of Careerships Alumni and much more which you can explore on my LinkedIn page should you wish.
This is why Golden Week is so important.
I set my goals and objectives for 2024. Updated my vision board, watered my network and ultimately decided to be bigger and better. Without the dedicated time to set this foundation, I doubt my targets would’ve been hit as quickly nor effectively.
“If you’re anything like our clients, you may want to spread your career wings further regarding your career prospects. Their opportunities don’t stop just because it’s Christmas, and they may be snapped up by someone who made moves while you were snoozing.” – Richard Edge
Doesn’t have to be fancy. But it does need to exist. Write your biggest and most ambitious goals. You might surprise yourself with how 2025 unfolds once you plant the seed for your vision.
Be sure your vision board is always in sight too and take a good look at it when you wake up and just before you go to sleep.
My Vision Board hangs in my office and annoys me a bit... because it fuels me to continue and reach everything on it.
Actively set aside time in your calendar for you to plan your 2025. Because let’s face it, “tomorrow” never comes, so don’t put it off.
Naturally, the time is in Golden Week, between 26th December – 30th December, Christmas & New Years.
Plan your 2025 in a place that inspires you. Whether it’s a last minute flight, your favourite café, or out in nature, pick a place that calms the mind and invigorates the soul.
By sparking inspiration, your goals will become clearer and more exciting too, essential to planning the year ahead.
Last year mine was in Qatar, a place very dear to my heart as I lived and worked there for many years. In the UK, I like to go to my favourite hotel and have a coffee.
It’s all good to gear up for those goals ahead, but reflection is also key. Reflecting on 2024, month by month, season by season, is incredibly valuable to your growth.
Questions that may help:
→ What was the biggest change you made this year?
→ Greatest challenge and downfall? How did you overcome it?
→ Recall 5 key achievements from 2024.
→ Did you achieve everything you hoped? If not, how can you achieve it in 2025?
Alongside your solo journey, it is important to be held accountable. This may be a friend, a career coach or even an app on your phone.
Stay accountable.
That way, you will always progress rather than hitting a mental block down the line.
For example, at Careerships Alumni, we have our Buddy Programme!
This newsletter provides a quick overview to achieving success next year.
But you also need to act.
Afterall, a dream without a plan remains a dream.
