Paris. City of Love ... ?

The Olympics began around 3,000 years ago, so I won’t beginthis newsletter by explaining its history. What I will do is share what we canlearn from this year’s Olympics so far. Why? Because this event can teach you more about yourselfthan you realise. (whether you are interested in this or not).

Paris, 2024.

The city of love.

Every café sighs with romance, the moonlight kisses the Seine and rose-filled air wraps around timeless art. Sounds dreamy, right?

Let’s bring you to the headlines at the start of the 2024 Olympics where Eurostar cancels most journeys due to rail sabotage and countless flights are disrupted due to mass strike. Doesn’t sound too dreamy now, does it?

Of course, it’s very easy to get swept away by the iconic beauty of Paris, but it’s important to see what is actually happening right in front of you.

Similar to when you form your vision for the next few months or years.

Managing expectations is essential.

Yes, you should dream big, aim for the stars, aim for another universe.

But keep in mind what’s happening in your life now.

→ Do you have responsibilities and priorities that you need to account for?

→ Do you need certain things in place before your vision can begin?

→ Do you even have a vision board or is it in your head waiting to come true?

Assessing what you have now is crucial to remain realistic whilst reaching your dreams. This way you can be prepared if your bubble does burst, just like how more than a million tickets are left unsold for one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events.

Ready, Set... False Start?

The city of movement.

Let’s imagine you’re an athlete at the Paris Olympics.

You attain your position. You have your trustworthy running shoes on, your eye is on the finish line. The crowd cheers, the gun fires and you’re off!

But you don’t move. Everything around you is still going, other athletes have sprinted off, the crowd still roars but you’re still.

It’s more common than you think to be in this place and the most common reason is:

‘Failure to prepare, prepare to fail’

This applies to all areas in your life, particularly within your career.

·      Have a job interview?

·      Need to deliver a presentation?

Whatever it may be - whether you prepare or not – the world still continues around you. So be sure to be up to speed. Get started on the preparation you need to make sure you don’t fall behind. Keep your eye on the finish line and if you really are struggling to stay on track, it may be time to reach out to a coach, a career coach.

It rains, it pours

The city of perseverance.

The opening ceremony for Paris Olympics 2024 was quickly paired with wet weather.

Is this a big deal?

In this case, yes. Some events are postponed and delayed. Some people were concerned of getting sick. Overall, you would hope it would be dry, sunny and warm for the opening ceremony taking place in the Summer.

Yet, the show still went on. The boat parade sailed, the singers sang, and the crowd were present. You too should embrace adversity. Even the largest events in the world don’t go as planned, but they still continue.

One cannot just wait for the perfect day, the perfect moment. Sometimes you need to throw yourself straight in and make it as perfect as you possibly can.

Just. Keep. Moving.

You can’t bloom flowers without rain, you can’t grow in life without challenges.
